EU Soil Policy Dialogue: Aligning European and National Soil Strategies

About the Event

With the approval of the EU Soil Monitoring Law, the conversation around soil health has shifted from "why" to "how". The critical question now facing Europe is how to make soil health measurable, actionable, and coherent across both EU and national policies.

On 19 January, the BENCHMARKS project, in collaboration with Mission Soil projects, will host a workshop designed to connect the dots between emerging EU legislation, specifically the Soil Monitoring Law, the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), the Carbon Removal Certification Framework (CRCF), and the Nature Restoration Law (NRL), and the lived realities of national administrations and farmers.

By bridging the gap between high-level policy and farm practice, the dialogue aims to identify practical pathways for improved coordination across governance levels and to foster more inclusive, farmer-informed approaches to soil monitoring.

Key Themes

The session will explore how soil health monitoring can be operationalised across frameworks, with a focus on:

  • Soil health and monitoring indicators;
  • Challenges faced by national administrations;
  • Connecting research data with policy needs and farming practices;
  • Cross-DG policy coordination.
