Mission Soil projects and initiatives

Who

Projects and initiatives funded under the EU Mission ‘A Soil Deal for Europe’, working on soil health and contributing to the Mission’s objectives.

Why

Mission Soil projects share a common ambition: achieving the Mission’s objectives and accelerating the transition towards healthy soils. By joining forces, we can combine complementary expertise, activities and opportunities, and support Soil Living Labs and Lighthouses in leading this transition through user-centred co-creation.

What

Collaboration can include joint knowledge transfer and capacity building, communication and dissemination, matchmaking and networking, and joint contributions to policy dialogue and Mission-level discussions.

Living Labs and Lighthouses focused on soil

Who

Existing or emerging Living Labs and Lighthouses focused on soil health, sustainable soil management, soil restoration or other soil-related challenges, and not yet part of the SOILL network.

Why

Joining SOILL connects soil-focused Living Labs and Lighthouses with a growing European community, opening opportunities for knowledge exchange, mutual learning, visibility and collaboration.

What

SOILL can support interested Living Labs and Lighthouses in exploring their alignment with the network and, where relevant, guide them through the onboarding and integration process, including the labelling process.

How

  1. Create a free account or log in to the SOILL Hub.
  2. Select “Register your initiative”.
  3. Complete the pre-assessment, which takes approximately 10 minutes.

You can also access the initiative registration and pre-assessment form directly.

Living Lab projects, networks and initiatives

Who

Projects, networks and initiatives working with, setting up, coordinating or adopting Living Labs across different sectors, themes and geographical areas, in Europe and beyond.

Why

Living Lab communities share common methods, challenges and experience that can benefit the soil community. Connecting across sectors and territories creates opportunities to exchange practices, learn from different approaches and strengthen Living Lab expertise within and beyond the SOILL network.

What

Collaboration can include exchanging and jointly developing Living Lab methods, tools and practices, sharing knowledge and resources, and creating opportunities for cross-network learning. Dedicated onboarding and integration into the SOILL network can also be explored for projects including soil-focused Living Labs and Lighthouses.

Other R&I projects and initiatives for scalable soil solutions

Who

European and international projects and initiatives with complementary expertise, activities, results or opportunities relevant to the development of Soil Living Labs and Lighthouses and their wider ecosystems.

Why

Collaboration across different fields can bring new perspectives, knowledge, solutions and opportunities to the network, while creating new connections and possibilities for joint work beyond the soil and Living Lab communities.

What

Collaboration can include knowledge and results exchange, joint activities, capacity building, communication and dissemination, sharing tools and solutions, and exploring new opportunities around common interests.

Networks and organisations

Who

Networks, associations and organisations bringing together communities relevant to soil health, Living Labs, research, innovation, land management and related fields.

Why

Connecting communities allows us to reach beyond our respective networks, bring different perspectives and expertise together, and create stronger links between Soil Living Labs and Lighthouses and the wider soil and innovation ecosystem.

What

Collaboration can include cross-network knowledge exchange, joint outreach and engagement, communication and dissemination, connecting communities and expertise, and developing activities around shared priorities.

Investors and funders

Who

Public and private funders, investors and other organisations interested in financing soil health innovation and the longer-term development of Soil Living Labs and Lighthouses.

Why

Turning locally developed solutions into lasting change requires access to funding and investment beyond individual projects. Connecting the network with different financing opportunities can support continuity, uptake and scale-up of promising activities and solutions.

What

Collaboration can include sharing funding and investment opportunities, connecting with relevant Living Labs and Lighthouses, exchanging on financing needs and models, and exploring opportunities to support the uptake and scale-up of solutions.

Policy and public authorities

Who

European, national, regional and local public authorities, policymakers and institutions working on soil health and related policy areas.

Why

Living Labs connect policy with experience from the ground. Working together can bring their knowledge, evidence and needs into policy discussions while strengthening the connection between policy priorities and locally co-created solutions.

What

Collaboration can include science-policy dialogue, exchange of evidence and field insights, policy recommendations, contributions to policy forums and discussions, and engagement around the implementation and development of soil-related policies.

Individual experts

Who

Individual experts across a range of themes and skills, from soil health and Living Labs to other relevant cross-cutting areas, interested in contributing their knowledge and experience to the network.

Why

Connecting with the SOILL network creates opportunities for mutual learning and exchange: the network can benefit from additional knowledge, skills and perspectives, while experts can connect with Soil Living Labs and Lighthouses across Europe, engage with real-world challenges and explore new opportunities for collaboration.

What

Individual experts can first of all become SOILL mentors, supporting applicants in applying for dedicated EU funding. Additional ad-hoc collaborations can also be explored with SOILL or with existing Soil Living Labs and Lighthouses through tailored matchmaking.
